How's your healthy boundaries with money going?
"Healthy boundaries you say?...as opposed to unhealthy ones?"...Yep!
There are healthy and unhealthy ones. The unhealthy ones kick your butt, make life very uncomfortable, bring about a significant amount of conflict and arguing, leave you feeling really horrible about yourself...about situations and can have you feeling really confused and lacking confidence when it comes to decision making, trusting and reading your gut instincts and intuition right and trust.
And money boundaries are so important.
In my Healthy Boundaries E-Course I'm going to be taking you through all the different kinds of boundaries there are and looking at how they show up for you.
My own money boundaries have changed a lot over the past 10 years, and I realised how much just the other day.
At the weekend I was at a local shopping centre and was straight away upon entering, approached by a young man selling tickets in a lottery for one of the foundations here in Australia, the prize was "huge 9.1mill in apartment block on the Gold Coast".
I was upfront with him about not being able to give him anything...he said, "well maybe I could tell you about who we are and what we do"...I said yes, because..... each year I support two charities.
One by way of a monthly donation and the other one gets a yearly small donation. Every year or so, I find a different charity or organisation to support that aligns with my values.
This particular foundation was for returned veterans and the support they need. It did appeal to me, and as he was talking about it all, he could see that I was more and more interested.
As he kept trying to sell me tickets and I asked more questions ( aka healthy money boundaries) I found out that he was asking for not just the sale of a ticket, but a monthly subscription. For which I wouldn't have found out about until I was getting ready to sign the paperwork.
I have huge boundaries around transparency. If someone is not transparent with me money wise, business wise etc I don't do business with them nore place my trust in them. I also have big money boundaries when it comes to knowing who and what I can support in a year and I stick to it.
In 2013 I wasn't clear about my money boundaries, and I said yes to some young guy selling tickets in a mall (monthly subscription) for a different charity.
At the time I wasn't in the position to do this, yet I did it because I lacked boundaries around money and personal worth. I ended up having to cancel it a few months later and felt bad. It was a huge lesson for me.
This young man at the weekend gave it his best, but I ultimately walked away really proud that I could easily say
"I have my limit on who I support and I'm sticking with that. Nothing you say is going to change that for me...thank you"
Boy that felt good! And showed me how far I've come in my journey with boundaries. I am so much more respectful and appreciative of the money I earn now.
