Preparing for Certification
Prerequisites and training required before you can apply for CBP-A certification.
-
You have conducted a minimum of 50 sessions on animals, without the use of books, charts or notes.
-
You must have at least 25 sessions ready to upload and be reviewed. The remaining 25 sessions must be fully reviewed before you can sit your Written exam, which happens before the Practical Exam.
-
These sessions were conducted on a minimum of 10 different animals.
-
When you begin this journey you'll need to confirm how many sessions were done in person and how many remotely at distance.
-
All sessions must have specific details documented such as date, animal name, guardian details or initials at the least, health complaints and any results noted immediately after the session and on follow up sessions. Has this been completed?
-
Read and agree to IBA Policies and Procedures, found in your IBA members download section.
-
Read and agree to IBA Code of Ethics, located here.

This document is also found in your IBA Members
So far, so good!
Now, here are a few more things to keep in mind...
Written exam details
-
The written test is taken before your Practical exam.
-
The exam will cover material presented in Principals of Consciousness (Module 3) and BodyTalk for Animals (Module 8a)
-
The passing grade is %90.
-
In most cases the written exam is facilitated live with Jacquie present, using her private Zoom room dedicated especially for exam students.
-
In extenuating circumstances you may be given permission to do the written exam remotely with the use of a proxy.
-
A limit of 3 hours maximum is given to complete the written exam.
-
When you take the exam with Jacquie, you'll be given the opportunity to review all your answers and make any changes before finishing.
-
After completing your written exam live with Jacquie, she will take some time to review and mark your exam. She will then let you know via email what your results were.
-
It's not uncommon for Jacquie to ask for a short debrief via Zoom to go over some of your exam results. This is ultimately to help you to to be safe in practice and have the best professional footing possible.
-
Because the CBP-A exam is allowed to be conducted remotely in certain circumstances, the written portion of the exam requires that the exam be administered by a proctor. It is the student’s responsibility to find a local proctor or testing service, pay any required fees, and supply a postage paid, pre-addressed envelope to the proctor to be sent to the supervising instructor immediately upon exam completion.
-
The written portion of the exam must have a passing grade of 90 percent. For the practical portion of the exam there will be a list of items the student must address. Each item will have an assigned point value.
Practical Exam Details
-
The Practical Exam is done after your Written Exam.
-
1 hour is given to complete this part. Accommodations can be given for students with learning challenges.
-
The passing grade is %90.
-
The purpose of this portion of the exam is for you, the student to clearly demonstrate proficiency in applying the BodyTalk System protocol procedures and its techniques to animals.
-
For the practical portion of the exam there will be a list of items the student must address. Each item will have an assigned point value. When viewing the practical portion in person or on video, the instructor will determine if all or only a portion of the points were earned for each item.
-
The practical examination portion is either done in person or filmed and submitted on video, wherein the student demonstrates proficiency of:
-
the intake form
-
discussing the animal’s health history
-
properly applying the BodyTalk System protocol and procedures on the animal
-
post-session discussion
-
follow-up session intake, and
-
the ability to describe additional specified techniques.
-
-
Because the practical component of the CBP-A exam is allowed to be filmed and submitted via video, it is the student’s responsibility to acquire and cover any expenses for equipment that may be required to submit a video that can be clearly seen and heard. Prior to filming the session and other requirements, the student must film the space in which they are treating to demonstrate that there are no visible charts, books, manuals, or notes.
-
Exceptions to these guidelines and appropriate accommodations can be made for students with learning disabilities.

Some Final Bits and Pieces
-
When gathering your 50 documented sessions. It's essential to have filled out a BodyTalk for Animals Intake Form for all first time sessions with a new animal client. Then using either the Session Notes template to document the rest of the session details.
-
Jacquie has combined this into one document for ease of use. You can type directly into the document and upload it. There are other options for documenting and uploading your sessions, ask Jacquie about this if it interests you.
-
Please use the document How to Write Session Notes and Accepted Abbreviations, to write out your sessions and client details (Provided in your Student Exam Folder or by emailing Jacquie after taking BodyTalk for Animals)
-
An additional USD $50 processing fee is paid to the IBA upon passing both of your exams.
-
Exam Failure: When students fail one part of the CBP-A exam, they must re-do the entire exam (both written and practical). The full exam fee must be paid each time the exam is taken.
-
Note: Because grading of the practical portion of the exam allows for some subjectivity, it is up to the examining instructor’s discretion if, rather than failing a student who received slightly less than 90 percent, they decide to have a follow up discussion and allow the student to re-do a portion of the practical (either done immediately in person or to be submitted on video).
-
-
Final Certification: Once all prerequisites are met and the exam has been passed, the trainee and instructor must fill out the CBP-A Exam Cover page and the trainee must complete and sign the CBP-A Agreement form. Once these forms and the $50 processing fee have been submitted to the IBA, the Certified BodyTalk Practitioner for Animals (CBP-A) title and certificate will be given.
-
Understand Requirements for Ongoing Certification: To hold and maintain an active CBP-A certification, the CBP-A must:
-
Keep their IBA Membership active by renewing every year (automatic renewals are available).
-
Complete 32 hours of IBA-approved continuing education units (CEUs) in the BodyTalk System or Life Sciences every two years, starting from the date you passed your CBP-A
exam. (Every IBA course lists CEUs hours in the course descriptions.) -
Adhere to the IBA Code of Ethics.
-
Stay current on updates to the IBA Policies and Procedures.
